Cardrooms keep our cities working.

For decades, licensed cardrooms have been essential economic engines for working communities across California. They support thousands of jobs and pay for the services our neighbors count on.

Why cardrooms matter

Economic engines for working communities

For decades, cardrooms have been legal, regulated, and essential economic engines for working communities across California. They support thousands of jobs and generate hundreds of millions of dollars annually for local governments. These are stable jobs with wages and benefits that support working families.

In our member cities, a cardroom is rarely just one more business on the tax roll. It is one of the largest employers in town, and one of the largest single sources of money in the city budget, funding the services residents rely on every day.

What it pays for

The backbone of a city budget

In our member cities, cardroom table tax revenue is not a discretionary or supplemental funding stream. It is the backbone of the general fund, and it shows up in the services residents use every day: police protection and 911 emergency response, parks and libraries, youth and senior programs.

When that revenue is steady, a city can staff its police department, keep its libraries open, and maintain the streets its residents drive on. It pays for infrastructure and neighborhood improvements. It is the difference between a budget that works and one that does not.
